Tutors, mentors and coaches have long been critical components in a system of supportive relationships for young people. The pandemic intensified attention on the ways social connections can help advance whole child development and accelerate learning. Now is the time to investigate how these approaches can be aligned within communities to create better outcomes for young learners. There is also much to explore regarding how these dedicated guides and counselors can best devote their time and energy to children in the early years and early grades to promote the early relational health that is so crucial for development and can help confront inequities.
And, just as important, how can tutors, mentors and coaches help to strengthen the parent-teacher dyad that has always been critical for early school success and is even more significant now with so much confusion and concern surrounding learning conditions.
