We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be partnering with Girls Who Code to help get middle and high school girls interested in computer science and close the gender gap in technology! Please join us for a brief call on September 15th at 1:00 EDT/12:00 CDT to find out how you can start a club at your site (RSVP here).
Girls Who Code Clubs are FREE after-school programs for 6-12th grade girls to use computer science to impact their community and join our sisterhood of supportive peers and role models. They can be hosted in schools, universities, libraries, community centers, faith-based organizations, or nonprofits.
Clubs are led by Facilitators, who can be teachers, computer scientists, librarians, parents, or volunteers from any background or field. Many Facilitators have NO technical experience and learn to code alongside their Club members.
To start a Club, you need:
- Computers and internet for each Club member if possible. Sorry, tablets and phones are not allowed!
- Space to host the Club, such as a classroom or computer lab.
- An adult who will be responsible for leading the Club through the Girls Who Code curriculum for 2-3 hours each week and communicating with Girls Who Code.
- A passion for Girls Who Code’s mission and the ability to foster community within your Girls Who Code Club.
Don’t want to wait to get your Girls Who Code club started? Just fill out the Clubs Application and you’re on your way! Note: In the section that reads “Are you affiliated with any of these Girls Who Code partners?” please select “Kentucky Out-of-School Alliance”.
