DESCRIPTION:In a continued effort to boost family engagement and lift parent voices\, the U.S. Department of Education has partnered with Carnegie Corporation of New York and Overdeck Family Foundation to launch a virtual Family Engagement Learning Series. The six-month series will explore bright spots in the field and provide practitioners with resources and evidence-based strategies to support student success. \nThe first session will focus on how family engagement can support math and literacy learning. \nSubsequent sessions will take place on the fourth Tuesday of each month\, with topics including attendance and engagement\, student safety\, mental health\, and academic readiness.

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by: American Institutes for Research (AIR) \nResearch and practical experience suggest that readiness is critical when making a change. In out of school time (OST)\, change can take many forms—from making improvements to existing practices\, to implementing new activities\, to revamping a program completely—but its success hinges on having strong operations\, willing staff\, and engaged stakeholders ready to make change happen with integrity and quality. Join us to learn more about what readiness is and why it matters\, and hear from OST leaders who are integrating readiness thinking and tools into their work. Participants also will have the opportunity to hear from researchers at the American Institutes for Research (AIR) about AIR’s new\, free resource\, the Ready to Implement Toolkit. The Toolkit is a research-based resource for OST leaders\, staff\, and teams who want to make data-driven decisions as they prepare for change. \nAIR’s development of the Ready to Implement Toolkit was supported by the Susan Crown Exchange and The Wallace Foundation. The Toolkit was developed with input and support from the field to create something useful for the field. Many times the biases that we carry can cloud our judgement and decision making without us being cognizant of it. These can have negative effects on ourselves and the people that we serve. \nAt the conclusion of the session\, participants will be able to do the following: \n\nDemonstrate understanding of the difference between implicit and explicit bias\nIdentify their own implicit biases in various conditions\nDevelop strategies to work against bias as they appear in their personal and professional experience.
