The report\, “Time for a Game-Changing Summer\, With Opportunity and Growth for All of America’s Youth\,” provides insights into what the summers of 2019 and 2020 looked like for children and youth in the United States. It is based on responses from nearly 30\,000 U.S. families to a household survey examining the summer of 2019\, as well as surveys of parents and providers that shed light on how the pandemic shaped young people’s summer experiences in 2020. \nThe summer months can be a time of opportunity\, when students can form friendships\, explore new subjects\, engage with mentors\, and be active and outdoors. Commissioned by the Afterschool Alliance and conducted by Edge Research\, the new study reveals significant inequities in terms of summer opportunities in recent years. The epidemic of trauma threatens both the physical and mental health outcomes of youth. Summer programs offer a necessary vehicle through which to address this urgent need. \nIn order to help summer programs amplify their impact\, We Coach will provide a training to help youth development professionals\, camp counselors\, and coaches understand the impact of overwhelming stress\, or trauma\, on young people and equips them with skills to take action to support these young people. Their interactive training provides a foundation in trauma-informed practice and provides concrete strategies that adults can use immediately. The training explores three core ways that programs can maximize their healing potential: through the power of relationships\, by encouraging physical activity\, and creating manageable\, resilience-building patterns of stress.

DESCRIPTION:Over the past year\, the pandemic has significantly disrupted learning and family life. Challenges brought about by COVID-19—including increased mobility\, family economic hardship\, and drastic changes to learning environments—have caused more young people than usual to leave or disengage from school. As a result\, many educators and youth-supporting practitioners are thinking about attendance and engagement differently and are trying to shift and adapt their strategies based on what students need at this unique moment in time.
