SUMMARY:PART I: Incorporating STEM Role Models Into Afterschool: Let’s get started!
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is the first in a three-part series of webinars focused on STEM role models for afterschool networks and programs\, presented by the National Girls Collaborative. Exposure to diverse STEM role models can broaden girls’ perceptions of STEM careers and dispel stereotypes about who does STEM. The presenters will provide an overview of STEM role models\, benefits of incorporating role models into STEM programs for girls\, and resources and strategies for identifying and engaging role models. In preparation for the webinar\, participants are encouraged to think about how they currently use (or do not use) role models in their network or program\, and identify challenges to incorporating STEM role models.

SUMMARY:The Standards and STEM: Breakdown of the types of standards that STEM Curricula Can Meet
DESCRIPTION:Working towards effective STEM learning means gaining a deeper understanding of the future we aspire to build\, and having the ability to imagine this future. \nStandards’ bodies and organizations work hard to build standards that help us guide students into being inquisitive\, innovative\, and inventive. Those standards can be difficult to navigate if you’re new to teaching STEM and especially if you’re integrating emerging technologies into your instruction. \nWhat standards should you consider? What emerging technologies will engage students and provide effective instruction? Where is the overlap for me to get the most return on the investment? \nExplore the intersection of standards\, methodologies\, and curricula in this educational webinar made for teachers and administration brought to you by NextWave STEM. \nWebinar Objectives: \n\nGain a deeper understanding of STEM-related standards across a spectrum of discipline\nExplore ways in which curricula can satisfy standards while developing holistic learning in students

SUMMARY:Virtual Engineering Design Challenges Webinar Series: Session 3
DESCRIPTION:Over three hour-long sessions this fall with Technovation\, you’ll become an expert in leading engineering design challenges online that help students develop the following engineering mindsets: 1) use the engineering design process; 2) work in teams; 3) evaluate and iterate; 4) persist and learn from failure; and 5) identify as engineers. \nGet ready for hands-on building during each session. You’ll be part of a supportive learning community. If you are looking for a way to step up your STEAM game in a fun and active way with your kids\, this is for you. Help them think like engineers to build solutions to any sort of problem! \nThese three sessions are for program staff (directors\, STEM specialists\, and facilitators) working with kids in 4th–8th grades. \n\nYou’ll make a plan to help your students deal with hard parts like persisting through failure and encouraging creativity\nYou’ll reflect and revisit tools introduced earlier to look at them differently\nAll while making a water collection system in a design challenge you can use with your students.\n\nBring these materials to the session with you: \n\nSkewers\nTape\nScissors\nCardboard or foam core\nCups\nStraws\nFoil\nCups (with holes punched in the bottom) + water for testing
